Mauser action
Im looking to build my first custom bench rifle with a large ring mauser action. I found them available in a flyer from Centerfiresystems for $150 in .308. Im confused about the choices they give. Does it matter if i choose the "belgian" action with the crest or should i stay with the Russian? thanks

I have a mauser action with what looks like a spanish or argentine crest on the receiver ring.
It is barrelled and stamped 7.92 and is in exellent shape visibly.
the barrel has been shortened and a sporter sight installed.
I am considering removing the barrel and using this action to build
a Knock-around .35 Whelen with iron sights.
I don't know much about mausers.
Is this action suitable for my plan without getting into major metal
work like heat treatment, etc.?

It sounds like you may have a Costa Rican Mauser. I don't have my reference materials handy but if you could get to a good mauser book like Ludwig Olsons, you could get more details there. Also someone with this info off the top of their head may reply. The barrel/extractor relationship was different on the C-R's and maybe some others. 0 -

I believe that 09arg has got it right, semaj. The Costa Rica Mauser M1910 has a relief cut in the rear barrel face to clear the extractor. It was necessary because an attempt was made to more completely enclose the cartridge head. It was also used on some Serbian and Yugoslavian rifles. Ludwig Olson's book has several blurbs on this feature (peculiarity). I didn't find any info on the thread dimensions during a quick check. It might be in the book, though, or in Frank de Haas'S tome.
