What bullet does your mini-14 prefer (factory/hand
Alright guys, "sinceyouwuz" on the topic of the mini-14, what load does your gun like? I have one that never really has shot well, it has only maybe 150rnds through it. I am particular about maintanance and cleaning, so what have you all found that it likes to eat? I have a nice SIKA deer stand in the marsh on one of the farms I hunt, and was thinking that the neat little carbine would be great to walk that marsh with and climb a tree. BUT, I can't accept less than 1", and so far, I havn't found the right factory load. Ball ammo isn't worth loading in this thing. Well,........what you shootin and what group you gettin????? Thanks
And for all you naysayers, a BIG Sika buck doesn't get much over 100lbs, so YES it is a capable caliber.
I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.

All of mine will shoot Wolf 55GR bullets well, but it seems like they prefer UMC 55gr Bullets.I caught some on sale I believe at sportsma guide and I bought a bundle of it.If you will notice its the same thing as regular green box.It shows Muzzle velocity their the same, and it also shows muzzle energy ad its the same.Hope this helps.
Best!!!

rugster, have you ever gotten any softpoint or balistic tip/hollow point rounds to group well? If so, which ones? Thanks

Well truthfully NO on Hollow Points,I can get a three inch group with soft points or full metal jacket.I dont know why but when I shoot Hollow Points my groups go to 4 or 5 inches.Which is fine by me to Hunt Deer with.Except in VA.The bullet has to be .23 inch caliber to Legaly Hunt large Game. But the 223 is plenty for Whitetails IMHO. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will leave the hollow points out of the testing process for now. I want to maybe try some remington core-lokt 55gr soft points and then some balistic tips. One of them should group enough to be ethical at 100-150yds on a Sika. I just can't seem to justify $600 in custom work at accuracy systems inc to get a better group, that's a whole other gun. But they do look sweet, check out their site if you get a chance to.
