HOWA 'bout that
Anyone out there own a Howa bolt-action rifle? I know they make the Weatherby Vanguard, and have made rifle's for Smith and Wesson. I have shot a few of the Smith and WEsson versions and thought well of them.
I was looking at one at a local sporting goods retail chain and there was one there in 30-06 that I liked real well and had a great price, about $310.00. It had a synthetic stock and black matte finish. So, it made me wonder just how good is it?

I own two. Howa and Savage are the best guns for the money. You can get a better gun, but it will cost a lot more, and a gun as good will cost you more with another name on it.

Thumbs up on owning a Howa rifle.
At the last gun show I attended, saw their "Varminter" model and
just had to have it. Got it in .308 with the Boyds 'pepper' stock
and a 4x12 scope. Very, very nice rifle. Caveats?, this is a heavy
rifle due to bull barrel, your left bicep will get a workout until you
add a bipod or shot over a rest. Also avoid surplus ammo; I tried some
South American mil surplus and the brass was a bit thicker than commercial resulting in tight extraction.
Shoots 1" groups @ 100 yds all day. Buy it and with the money you save
invest in good glass.

Got one in30/06 for my older son about7-8 years ago. Now have 3 of them and all are good shooters. The recall on the bolt is still in effect so you might want to check that out. It doesn't cost any $ for the recall but it usually take 2-3 weeks for the turn around. I saw another notice in the last NRA mag so you can check the serial #'s from that.

I have three of them. My .243 grouped .340 out of the box. Shot a 3.768 group at 600 yards.Best bye for the money hands down.

I have on in .223.This is the target model,Stainless,heavy barrel.This is one of the most accurate guns I own.It has the blue wood stock.I bought it at around 325.00 now the same gun is 675.00 a year later.I wouldn't trade it for the world.It will place ten shots almost through the same loacation.Of course I use custom hand loads.For the money, a definite winner.All of this right out of the box.Buy one,you won't regret it! 0 -

I bought their barreld action a couple of years ago and bedded it on a Boyd's JRS classic stock. Shoots better than I do in .308. I think you will be pleased. 0 -
Hey : this is a little off base , but ... I own a M-1 carbine made by Howa ??? kind of neat and somewhat unusual ???

I have a S&W Model 1500 in .30-06 manufactured by Howa. I have some consistency problems, but don't know if it is due to mechanical defect or operator error. I have a Bushnell 6 x 40 Scope on weaver rings and bases. I haven't been able to develop a tight (inside 1 inch at 100 yards) group. Have tried all major ammo brands, utilized ballast bags on the bench as well as a varmit rest. I really cannot complain about the functionality of the rifle. Most of my deer hunting is done where a 200 yard shot is a long shot, and I can destroy a 1 liter soda bottle at 150 yards.
Anybody else have a similar experience?0
