I don't have my book with me but I think all Colt Commanders that are series 70 have a CLW prefix in the serial number. Colt series 70 Combat Commanders have a 70BS or 80BS prefix.

You are correct, they are Combat Commanders. I just found out the SC is 78 and the BS is 72.

Hunter,,, I have a series 70 Colt commander ser # 70SC74***. There is no CLW, or BS in it. It has the "Satin Nickle" finish.

Hunter7737-- If I'm not mistaken, the CLW as part of the serial number stands for "Commander Light Weight." That's the serial number designation prefix for alloy frame Commanders.

    My humble 2-cents worth,

So my 70BS30934 is made in 72? I have a fellow who is interested in buying it and I have had a little trouble determining a fair price. Looks like they have held their value and not too many out there for sale.
