ar-15 questions
Help, i bought an Colt Ar-15, and am looking for information on it as in year built, value, pre or post ban and am not having much luck. I would like to know if it is a 6500 or 6700 series and so far have not been able to find out anything.
The rifle appears to have not been previously owned or fired, other than at the factory. it has a detachable handle with the scope rail
underneath. on its side it says " Sporter competition hbar. cal.223"
it does have the heavy barrel, forward assist. The serial number is ch005524.
there are no other numbers on this rifle that i can see other than
on the barrel it says " c mp 5.56 nato hbar.
would appreciate all info out there on this if anyone knows anything.

I do not own a AR-15 type rifle and I desire one. With so many models and calibers to choose from, what should my process be for making my decision? My initial question is this: Considering the recent runup in gun prices, is now the right time to make my AR-15 purchase? Might prices come down? Other considerations: I will want to shoot Texas Whitetails and predators. Recently I have discovered that we have a large hog inventory on our Texas Hill Country property which has provided me with much fun. Currently I shoot a 25.06 and a 22.250.
With that said I want to hunt these hogs at night. What optics and light setup is recomended from you experts? Should I consider a caliber larger than 223 x 5.56? I like what I have read about Rock River Arms and I also like the Barrett 6.8. Again too many choices for a AR-15 shopping rookie.
Sound advice and recomendations are welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.

you can always call Colt, with the SN they should be able to tell you alot of what you are wanting to know. 0 -
Does it have a flash suppressor or bayonette lug? If not, it is post ban, if it does, it is probably pre-ban. that is of course assuming that it has not been broken down and put back together with different parts, i.e. pre upper and post lower or post upper and pre lower.
I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.0 -
I'm 99.9% sure what you have is a pre-ban model 6700

Scott Duff has an AR-15 book with all the serial # info. I think it is titled "Thr AR-15 Owners Guide". I have the book, I just can't remember the exact title.
Better to have and not need, than need and not have.0
