reasonable priced rebluing
any person know or had experience with any gunsmith in the south east ? I would like to reblue bbls. and coin finish recivor .metal is in fine shape only bluing is worn off no pits or marks on metal .appx. how much would i expect to pay for this service?

Daydreamer, Welcome to this board. I'll offer my humble comments to your posting since it hasn't stirred much interest. You'll find that lots of these folks, and I include myself, do not generally feel like rebluing is of much real value...hard to justify the price of a professional reblue on an inexpensive shooter and a fine, valuable shotgun, handgun or rifle is often best kept as original as possible through zealous and thorough cleaning and oiling. There is a gunsmith here in my town who declined to do a reblue job on a Belgian Sweet Sixteen and talked the customer into letting him take it down and completely clean it and apply oil as needed...he did replace the badly-speckled plated trigger (but returned the original to him in a plastic envelope)and installed a correct FN buttplate where the previous owner had installed a recoil pad but fortunately hadn't cut the stock down. My younger brother now has a classic A-5 with clean original finish, original vent rib barrel and it shows a little white on the high points and corners. He and I are both glad the smith was able to influence him to keep the gun as original as possible. And what the heck, he or his sons can always reblue it if they just have to have something to do later on. Now I wouldn't hesitate to do a do-it-yourself blue job on a shooter...in fact I have duck hunted for a long time with a S&W 12 ga pump that has gotten so bad finish-wise that I spray-painted it flat black and just touch it up from time to time. Now I know that I haven't even come close to answering your question, but those are my honest thoughts as to re-bluing. Best, Jim

There are no bargain basement prices for a master reblue finish. It involves a lot of time, effort and experience and those items cost.
Find someone whose work you like and pay what he charges. If you go on price alone, you'll be disappointed in the results.0 -
It is not the rebluing that deceases the value of the firearm. If done right you can't tell. The problem is in the metal prep. 0
