CZ75b in 9mm v. .40

I am about to buy of CZ75b and cannot decide between 9mm or .40 cal. I know the .40 is more powerful but the 9mm is cheaper. Can anyone give me any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations about that gun in the two calibers? Since the gun was designed for 9mm, is there any problem with it in .40 cal?

    I have the CZ40B and love it. The 40B is still based on the 75B action and there have been absolutely NO problems with it. If you don't mind a little extra recoil and ammo cost, I would suggest the 40. IMHO it is a much more capable cartridge than the 9.

    I think to answer this question better, we need to know what you plan to do with it. For plinkin-n-dinkin, you can't beat the 9mm. Cheap, mild recoil, enough power to make things move around a little when you hit or come close, generally as accurate as any other cartridge. However, if you have a more serious agenda, I would probably go with the 40 S&W. That cartridge was designed to be used on the 9mm frame and in most instances the mag capacity is the same or very nearly so. I have a 75BD in 9mm which I put an adjustable sight on (primary use, plinkin-n-dinkin) and enjoyed it very much until I was introduced to the SIG family. CZ is now on consignment at local gun shop as is my CZ 97.

    The CZ75B is on record for being one of the best Handguns made.I think the 9mm is an underrated cartridge.But its basically which one you prefer.

    Sorry I'm a little late with a reply. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the 97B. It's just that I believe of all the shooting sports, handgun shooting is the most sensitive to "feel" (for lack of a better word). If it doesn't feel right in your hand you will never perform as well as you could, if it did feel right. That is one reason I have never owned a Glock. Nothing wrong with the guns, just don't like the way they feel. I'm not much of a fan of auto loaders because I dislike shagging brass. Also, most don't point instinctively for me. I more or less have to drive them. I started with the S&W 4506 when they first came out and shot it at lot. Handled a 97B later and it felt MUCH better. Sold S&W, bought CZ. Shot it a couple thousand rounds. Enjoyed it. An aquaintence came over who has a CC pertmit and showed me his SIG P220. End of story. Except for my Benelli target guns, all my center fire auto loaders are SIG. Probably die owning them, unless the democrats get them first!

    Pristine logic. Many want to make a fashion statement vs performance. It's like a $500 pair of running shoes. If they don't fit they won't let you perform. The guns I LIKE the most often aren't the ones that FIT the best. A shame so little thought is put into this vital concept. You get a gold bullet.

    Roysha: Thanks for the informative and honest answer to my question about the CZ97B. The reason I asked is because I have always prefered the .45ACP cartdidge and the 1911 style semiauto,but I noticed some years ago that the 1911 didn't feel the same in my hand the way it used to. Finally realised that with getting older the dexterity in my hands had decreased. Tried the Sig 220 (still have it) but the light weight frame made it seem top heavy to me. Ended up with the 97B which works best for me............Hondo

    I have a convertable Beretta 92/96, so I have been comparing .40 with 9mm for some time. Don't let ammo cost influence your decision. .40 has come down in price quite a bit, and is now usually only about 2 cents more a round or so. Both are excellent target rounds, and as expected, the .40 has more kick, but if you know it's coming, it makes no difference. It's all about what feels right to you. Shoot both, and buy what pleases you better.

    Oh, and as for target shooting, I find the truncated cone .40 bullets make nicer, rounder holes in the the paper, like SWC, than the round nose 9mm, which tears more. Easier to score. In personal self-defense, away form the range, I go with .40 Golden Sabers, but I doubt it makes much difference. .40s have more KE, but 9mm greater velocity, either one has a good record of knockin' em down...
