What is a .17 hmr that I am hearing about?
I guess I missed out on this cal. Is it a necked-down 22mag?

Yes it is a necked down 22Mag shooting a 17 grain Hornady VMax at 2550 fps. It is simply the most amazing rimfire cartridge out there in terms of accuracy and varmint shooting! It is extremely flat shooting...with a 50 yard zero it is only 3/10 of an inch low at 100 yards and 3.1 inches low at 150 yards. That compares with a 22 Magnum with a 50 yard zero being 3 inches low and 9 inches low at those distances. I have confirmed kills on groundhogs at over 200 yards (measured) It is losing some steam after that 150-160 yard distance but head and neck shots are deadly!! Supposedly we'll see a new bullet or two for it sometime soon. Probably 20-22 grains and not as explosive as the VMax. As far as the accuracy goes mine groups under 1 inch at 200 yards!!! Under 1/2 inch at 100 yards. The gun is more fun than eatin beans!!! GHD 0 -
Yes,and it is the cutest thing you have ever seen.A friend just bought a Tarus in this cal. huge gun, little tiny hole, looks like a BB gun. He says he is going to use it to go mouse hunting. It's ..17HMR ,I mistakenly typed hrm

Saw a Ruger last night at Wally World chambered for the 17. Nice looking rifle. First one I have seen outside a gun shop. Seems like the price was $235. Cheapest one I have seen too. Nice laminated wood stock with stainless barrel. Might have to make a trip back there after payday on Friday.

I have a marlin 17hmr. and it is probably the best shooting firearm I have ever owned. Accuracy is unbelievable and downfield it is lethal out to 150-175 yards on small game and rodents. 0 -
bhayes, If that was a 77/17 tell them you want all they have for 235.00 and then call me cause I'll come pick them up if they have a truckload!! You either misread the tag or they screwed up big time!! Mine is a 17VS and I've put together 2 more Marlins one was 17V and the othr 17VS and all have 4.5-14 Nikons on them and all shoot ridicoulously tight groups for a rimfire! But at 235.00 I'll take those Rugers!!! GHD 0 -
i have read great things about the 17hmr. i am going to purchase the new england firearms 22lr at sports authority,a nd then send it back to the mfr for the bbl swap. i think the 17hmr bbl is like 33bucks. its pretty hard to get a 17 hmr in hawaii. im not sure what ill use my 17 for yet, but thats the greatest thing about guns....you never need a use to buy one!!

Groundhog....went back this evening to pick some things up for the wife. It is a Ruger 77/17. Don't know if they screwed up or not, but it was the only one they had, AND NOW IT BELONGS TO ME! YAHOO! I walked out the door with it for $253.34! Now to explain it to my wife so I can bring it in out of my truck!

I picked up one of those Ruger 77/17 for $400.00 from a seller here on GB. Its the nuts to shoot and like everyone else says the accuracy is outstanding. Now I am going to Wally Worls and buy all they have for that price.
bhayes420........GOOD BUY0 -
Went to the Wally World on the other side of town this afternoon to see if they had any. They did, just like the one I bought last night, but the sticker was $448. Guess the other store had made a mistake. Now....do I take mine back and tell them they screwed up and demand to pay them the difference????? I'm due one lucky break in this life! Now I have to find a scope to fit.

Brian, With the money you saved on the rifle, splurge on the scope!!! GHD 0 -
the guns are slowly becoming more available, and at better prices. we have a .17 HMR H&R single shot bull BBL with a black composite stock and a factory scope rail. its priced at $198.99. we have not recieved our rugers ar savages yet, but hope to soon. everyone wants to handle them, and they do not stay on the shelf long. i am strongly considering buying one myself. a 3-9x40 scope and a few boxes of ammo would make a great stocking stuffer. anybody have a report or experiance to share concerning the 200 yd group sizes???
