ar-15/rem 870 adapter
Years ago I saw an adapter to fit a Remington 870 to the bottom of an AR-15. I haven't seen it again, and I was wondering if they were banned.

Not banned.
MAC and another of the MAC mfgrs made the ones I know about and there were probably others.
Pretty ungainly with the 870 pistol grip and 18" barrel.
Without the grip and with a 10" barrel they were OK.

J.A. Ciener in Cape Canaveral, FL used to offer a very nice set up for the AR-15/M16. cpermd was right about the 18" barreled shotgun being a handful. The shorter barrels were much easier to manage. Remember, even if you started out with an Any Other Weapon shotgun ($5 NFA Tax) as soon as you clip it onto the AR-15 it becomes a Short Barreled Shotgun (it now is fired with a butt stock) and that means a $200 NFA Tax.

Just to weigh in here, I bought an AR-15 adaptor for a Mossberg 500, mine was a 20" and mounted it was awkward to say the least ... even on my 24" barreled AR, the Mossburg stuck out another 6-8" beyond the AR barrel ... it sounds cool in theroy, but as Mark pointed out, to make it really practical (and cool) you need the short barrel and the NFA stamp ... as with most things, its possiable with enough money
