Reloading Manuals

I know this has probably been covered more than once, but here goes. Gonna start reloading in the near future, just 38's and 357 for now. Already have the ABC's of Reloading. What other manuals do you guys suggest. I've read that I should get an older one alone with a newer one.

  in the books it has different ovl for different reloads. does that mean the max or min ovl?

  Chuck, IMHO the single manual which should be in every reloader's library is the Lyman. It's the best, most objective, general reloading manual there is. It covers a wide spectrum of cartridges with a variety of bullets and powders, while those proprietary manuals list only loads for "DEF" bullets and "XYZ" powders, depending on the source - and only in the calibers for which they make components (not an issue now with .38 & .357, but possibly in the future). That's not to say you may not wish or need a more specific manual some day in the future, but the Lyman manual will always be there for you. The NRA Guide to Handloading runs a close, but definite, second.

  Actually about the only thing a reloading manual referenced by most handgun users is for a starting powder charge with a given bullet. This information is readily available online most of the time. It's still a good idea to have a manual with solid instructions and other data like dimensions, but their value is more for ballistics which is needed by long range/rifle shooters than the typical pistol user.

  Be careful,you got some terrible advice.The old books used the old powders.Each batch of powder is different than the ones before.Keep up to date or instead of shooting that gun,you will be wearing it lodge in your skull or other places.
  If you prefer one powder maker over another,ask them which they suggest.Safty begins at home and most of us load there.Good luck.

  Thanks again for the responses. Ordered 2 loadbooks from Midway. I believe that should give me all the info I'm ever going to need, not going to be doing any competition shooting or anything like that and I don't do any hunting. Just like to shoot.
