old Marlin .22 rifle

My freind has an old Marlin .22, pump action, octagonal barrel. Near the stock it reads "Marlin No. 18". The barrel has several patent dates in the 1880's & 1890's. My question is what .22 round is this gun chambered for? Could this be WFR? Regular .22? I looked the gun over pretty good but did not see it marked any where. Thanks

  MARLIN MODEL 18 SLIDE ACTION RIFLE
  
  .22 short, .22 long, & .22 long rifle. tube magazine, 20" round, semi-octagonal, or octagonal BBL, exposed hammer, open rear sight, bead front sight, solid frame, uncheckered straight stock and slide handle. introduced in 1906, discontinued in 1909.
  
  
  all my referance materials and scources indicate these guns were chambered in .22S, .22L, & .22LR only. i cannot find one listed in .22 WRF, .22 extra long, or .22 win. mag rimfire. these guns do command a loyal collecters following, and have seen a rise in value due to the popularity of cowboy action shooting, and a resurgence in intrest in older rimfire guns. about 30% of total production were special order guns with any number of variations in finish(case hardening)wood, BBL length, engraving, etc...
  
  
  value for a standard model with an octagonal BBL in NRA excellant condition is about $325.00. if you are still uncertain about the round/caliber that the rifle chambers, have it looked at by a gunsmith.(a good idea anyway, as with any older firearm)
  
  
  this gun is often referred to as the "MARLIN BABY FEATHERWIEGHT REPEATER NO. 18". most are chambered in .22 short. later in production the .22 long and .22 long rifle were offered. you could also get a takedown model towards the end of production. the full legth mag. tube holds 25 .22 shorts/ the half legth tube mag holds .14 .22 shorts. 35.5 inch OAL, 3.75 lbs empty(standard model).
