If the buyer has a C & R licensee, you will need a signed copy of the C & R license for your records and you may ship direct to him at the address on the license. If the buyer has an ffl, you will need a signed copy of the ffl and must ship to the address on the license.
If the buyer has neither, he/she will have to obtain and send you a signed copy of the ffl to whom the gun is to be shipped and there again you must ship it to the adress on the ffl. Some dealers will only receive a firearm from an ffl holder, even though the federal law does not require this. U S Postal service will not knowingly handle shipment of a handgun from an unlicensed person. UPS and Fedex will handle it but require overnight service which is expensive. It might be cheaper to have your local ffl run it through his books and ship it for you as he can ship by USPS. Getting the gun off the state registry is something that should be checked on before making the sale/shipment. It is customary to get payment in advance and allow the buyer a 3 to 5 day inspection period.
