Dan Wesson Major
I have an opportunity to purchase a NIB Dan Wesson .45 Major? for $605.00 (this sounds cheap to me for all I'm allegedly getting). My only experience w/Wesson firearms is revolvers and they used to be a little on the pricey side, extremely accurate & sturdy. A Colt .45 re-issue is $895.00 and it's a no frills, parkerized, 2" accuracy on a good day type side arm. Am I getting a great deal here or is this the good of the good better best Wesson sidearms? Also could someone compare and contrast the Wesson to the rest of the .45's on the market? I owned a combat commander years ago and was not impressed, I think I sold it for $125.00 (20 yrs. ago.)just to get rid of it. Thanks for any help.

First run a check on the auctions going on and closed. It appears that there are some good buys right now on the Pointman series of guns. DW is coming out with their new line of 1911s now to replace(?) the Pointman Series. I have one of the early (#001X) Guardian Duce models. This is/was their Commander size and I have been quite pleased with it. Top quality components like a Jarvis bbl, Caspian extractor, McCormick internals and superior fitting have made it a VERY accurate and reliable piece.
DW knows that they are a relatively small 'niche' manufacturer and the quality is what they have going for them. I am happy with their products and the support they give to the Pro-Gun community even if they are from New York and talk funny.
