Remington 16 .22LR Conversion feasibility

Hello to all,I own a Remington model 16 takedown .22 autoloader from the 1920's.The rifle shoots the long obsolete .22 Remington automatic cartridge.I got a box of original ammo with the gun, and it has proven to be a good shooter.However, original shootable ammo is virtually unavailable.I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience relining and rechambering this gun for std .22LR ammo.The gun was offered chambered for std. .22 ammo at one point, I don't know if the breech
block and springs,etc. were the same,I have relined and rechambered many of my older .22's with great success,but I am hesitant to start
operating on this rifle without being sure that the conversion can be done.Thanks to all for your help. Pete

  You'd need to bush and rechamber the chamber and alter the extractor so it will grab the smaller diameter 22LR rim.. If the gun will feed and chamber the 22LR that's all that's needed. This gun also shoots the Winchester 22Auto round which is available but pricy. I shot my Win 03 using bushings made from 22 Mag brass, shortened & split with the backs filed open.

  Old Western Scrounger has 22Winchester auto ammo for around $16.00 a box. That old Remington is odd enough I don't think I would alter it if it were mine. I would just go buy a plinker.
