Browning BDA 380 DA only or DA 1st round then SA??

I have been looking (here on GB) at the Browning BDA .380 for my next purchase but I need to confirm how it works.

Is it DA like my hammer drop safety Ruger P89 in that the first round can be DA (when the hammer is dropped) or SA after the slide is racked or is it strictly DA, long trigger pull to cock the hammer after the round is auto loaded?

What is a good referene book that can explain this?

  The Browning BDA .380 and the Beretta Mod. 84 are essentially the same pistol, and both are double action the first shot and single action for subsequent shots. You can not carry the pistol "cocked and locked" as the thumb safety is also a decocking lever which drops the hammer; so after racking the slide, loading the first round, and in so doing cocking the hammer, you must either shoot from the single action mode or apply the safety and later fire the first shot double action--unless you have the time to thumb cock the hammer. I don't know of a specific reference book (although I'm sure there are at least several) but you've already got the idea. Double Action is usually taken to mean as described above--double action on the first shot only. DAO (Double Action Only) means just that--the pistol can not be fired in the single action mode at all. By the way, I hold the BDA in high regard; it is a very well made and reliable pistol.
