ca gun laws and crap...?

where can i find a simple to understand listing of laws for calif regarding guns. i.e. what grounds do i have to shoot someone in my house, when don't i have the "okay" to shoot someone, how am i supposed to drive my gun around from home to range to etc, can i take my gun camping with me and shoot someone if they try to rob me (but wouldn't i be concealing the weapon in "public" while camping???etc etc etc. i have a lot of what if questions!

i looked at http://www.caag.state.ca.us/firearms/ but i don't see anything that says just general info in english. i dont want to buy a gun and then have to use it on someone and find out the hard way i shouldnt have used it. know what i mean? i think living in a leaner state would be nice but southern cali is home.

  joe, the Department of Justice publishes a very good and easy to understand book called California Firearms Laws- 2000 edition. This breaks down the entire nightmare of the states gun laws into subjects like PROHIBITED FIREARMS, POSSESSION AND TRANSPORTATION, FORFITURES, SALES AND LOANS, AND THE USE OF FIREARMS IN DEFENCE OF LIFE AND PROPERTY. This book has about 50 pages and is written in easy to understand language- you don't need to be a lawyer to figure out what they are talking about.
  
  Copies are available from the DOJ at CA Firearms Laws, DOJ- Firearms Division, PO BOX 820200, Sacramento, CA 94203-0200. The cost is just $2 to cover postage- make the check out to Department of Justice. As a dealer I have access to the full text of the law as well as the regulations, but I use this book more than any other. It is useful.
