Knife sheath
I have a very old blacksmith made knife and I am wanting a
sheath for it. Does anyone know of a person or company that
makes them??

There has to be more than a few good leather companys on line. I would think some of the better holster makers might be able to help. Just a thought. And if it is a high carbon steel avoid cheap products the tanning salts will ruin a good knife. Good luck 0 -
If I had a "very old blacksmith made knife" I would want a sheath that matched the knife, that is, one that was designed to look like an old sheath. To me, it wouldn't look all that good to have an antique knife and a slick, new, modern sheath.
You might contact some muzzleloading guys in your area and see if any are in to "reinactment"...where they dress in costumes of times past. Many of those guys really know what old clothes and gear should look like. Another source would be the library. They have books on frontier stuff, which includes knives and sheaths.
Once you have the design, then find a leathersmith to build a sheath.

Trevino leather works out of Lead, South Dakota is excellent. He makes the sheath out of elk leather woven with deer hide strips and puts on buffalo head nickels for the fastener. I had a custum sheath made for my father and he liked so much that we drove 600 miles round trip to get 2 more. All you should have to do is trace the blade and fax him a copy plus give him the thickness of the blade. He should be listed in the directory. I hope this helps.
