with the cowboy action shooting many of these old cals. are available again .45/90 included (from specialy loaders) but the best is to reload for them. try midwayusa.com for brass and dies. another option would be to have your barrel rechambered to .444 marlin if you just want more power. 0 -
beal, you can find .45-90 ammo loaded by Bertram (Australia) which is imported by Old West Scrounger and available by special order thru your local shop as well as direct; some of the larger shops may stock some of the Bertram offerings. IMHO, the quality of the Bertram offerings is not bad, but not impressive. Star makes virgin brass, available at about $60/100 from Midway. Of course, any good .458 bullet will shoot in the rifle. So the ammo is not an issue.
The action is another question, and the more important one. I'm not qualified to answer that definitively. I'm not sure the action is intrinsically strong enough and of course even the strongest action could be defective, so you need to have it checked by a competent 'smith no matter how you proceed.0 -
we make it. $35.00 per 20 rounds shipping included. this is new brass cased custom handload. if anybody cannot find another scource, or a better price email me at waltsgun@aol.com and ask for big mike.

A 45-90 is almost the same as a 45-70 round but longer by about 1/2 an inch,I have yet to see any loaded ammo for this caliber yet, brass is available. This is one outfit i deal with alot for my obsolete brass, here is the link.

Ballard also sells the brass or you can buy 45 basic and cut it down to 45-90 45-70 etc 0 -
If all else fails, isn't it possible to use 45-70 in a 45-90? 0 -
PMC made a limited run of 45/90 and it is still advertised in Shotgun News.

.45 basic is 31/4" OAL
thats what I use for my .45-120-3 1/4"
however the .45 Basic can be cut down for
45-110
45-90
45-70
hope that helps0 -
The 45-70 shoots beautifully out of a 45-90 chamber and there are many loads for bullets from 300 to 500 grains. 0
