.45 cal Colt Cowboy
Has anyone tried one of these guns. I am thinking of buying one for a shooter. I have a Uberti 45 now and not really satisfied with it, but heard that the Cowboy is about the same.

I have seen the .45 Cowboy for sale in Pawn Shops in my area in the $400 to $600 price range depending on condition.
I have not owned one, but in talking with those I know with one, they don't say much bad about the gun.......but they don't say a lot of good either! Seems this gun somehow lacks something to cause the folks that have them little if any impression of it. It would be interesting to see what an owner and shooter of one of these has to say.

Had one,sold it at first oportunity.Made like all the late guns with safety devices needed by idiots.Not impressed at all.Without the Colt name would be worthless.I have owned guns for sixty years and if that was all I could get would not have another.NUFF SAID???
P.S.I'm not bad mouthing Colt per se,I'm just telling it how it is with the damned ambulance chasing lawyers and the idiotic insurance companies who demand NO CHANCE of LAWSUIT policies.When S&W built their new SCHOFIELD, they too were forced into such foolishness.They really regret the way it turned out.Now if they would go back and retool,they could make a killing.

I probably shouldn't even respond to this question without actual facts but "I have heard that" these guns are assembled using imported parts, so you might just as well start out with a Uberti for half the money. Just my thought. Emery 0 -
Shop around. You can get a nice Colt second generation for about $1000 maybe less depending on condition. These are made to the same specs as the original Colt peacemaker and a great gun to shoot. You can find them in 357 Mag which bring a lower price due to not being an original cowboy caliber. You can shoot 38's from the gun which makes for good economical shooting. 0 -
Save your money and get a Colt SAA, the Uberti you currently own is about the same as a Colt Cowboy.

I would suggest you look at the Ruger Vaquero. It will last a lifetme.

Check the dimensions of the Colt Cowboy vs a Colt or Uberti, You'll find the Colt Cowboy is smaller in size. The Colt literature from the NRA convention in Philadelphia I went to a few years ago said it that it was made 3/4 size. To me it almost felt like a Colt .22 Peacemaker.
