AR 15 in 7.62 x 39
I've got to wanting me another AR & since I have a 20" & a M4, I have decided to look for one in 7.62. Are these rifles good or just an oddity ? How many different manufactures if any besides colt produced these ? also will the 7.62 lower work with a .223 upper, should I want or need to change it out at some point.

The lowers will work for either.
The mags are your main problem.
Expensive.
Olympic and Colt made the uppers,I am sure there are others.
My advice is get more ammo and mags for the 5.56 and practice more.

From what I've read the 7.62x39 mags don't feed well in addition to being rare.
The 6x45 mm is another option that works well in the AR and uses 223 brass.0 -
Stick to the 10 and 20 rd. mags whenever possible.
The 30 and 40 rounders should be avoided.
My Colt MT6830 and I have found out the hard way...

I have an Olympic 7.62 x 39 upper with the 16 inch barrel. I have magazines that I bought from GB, that look like Ak-47 mags with a piece of AR mag welded on the top. They only hold 28 rounds but work flawlessly, even in full auto.
