AR15 308, 7.62X39 CONFUSED?
I need help.
am i able to convert an ar15 223 into a 7.62X39?

also...what magazines would i have to use? could a 223 mag be used?

No I don't think this can be done. However the AR10 looks like AR15 was a 308 and I think the made some AR15 in 7.62x39. I think their are conversion kits to 9MM but the only thing you reuse is your lower receiver. I don't think the mag well in a 223 receiver is big engough for a 308 or a 7.62x39 so I don't think you can just get a barrled upper for these and reuse your lower 0 -
There are quite a few uppers for the AR recievers, but the mag well is to small to fit a .308win, you'll have to get an AR-10 for that. There are however conversions for the AR for just about every popular pistol cartridge, 9mm, 40sw, 10mm, 45acp, 50ae, and a few more exoctic ones I've only read about. You can also get ar uppers in 7.62x39, 6x45mm, and 5.45x39.5mm. I'm also sure there's a couple more, and when it comes down to it, you could probably have one custom built in just about anything. 0 -
If you're confused about caliber conversion, it's only going to get worse when you have to figure out which part is pre-ban, and which part is post ban, and what size pin hole holds the 2 upper and lower together.
I suggest that you stay away from "conversions" and "build it yourself" projects until you have a lot more shooting experience and knowledge. You're going to end up spending a lot money for something that either doesn't work right, or is illegal (like the AR15 pistol you wanted to build).
