Help with a pre-war J.P. Sauer rifle

    My best guess would be 30-06.... my book list that as a posible cal for this rifle, although 7x57 and 8x57 were most popular. .307 dia is probably just a tight .308 dia bore. I just tried an 8x57 in my 30-06 and it will not close. hope this helps.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but it won't close on the .30-06. The '06 is longer than the 8mm.
    It's a puzzle.....?

    Sounds like chamber casting is your last resort...... My book list that all continental calibers were available- whatever that means. Is the bolt face the right diameter for an 8x57 or 30-06? Maybe it was rebarreled to 308 win? 7.5 french, swiss? these would seem to me to be continetal calibers.
