Opinnions on BSA and what are your top 5 optics
For hunting mostly deer primarly, but might get a high power one for varmits on my 22-250

Pdog, I haven't used a BSA, but I have looked through several. They have established a reputation as a decent scope for the price. They are certainly not top of the line however (nor is their price). Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski and Zeiss are probably tops as are their prices. For real world scopes the average guy can save for, My top choice is Burris Signature, then Leupold Vari-X III , then Nikon Monarch. After that there are several decent, mid-price scopes, Such as the Weaver Grand Slam, Pentax Light Seeker and light seeker II. JustC likes the Simmons Atec, with which I have no experience, but I trust his judgement on that one. With optics, you get what you pay for and the higher end of the scopes offered by a manufacturer will usually be the better choice in the long run, even if you have to save. For my money the 30mm scopes offer no significant advantages over 1" scopes. 0 -
Bought a couple of them on auction great price good clarity liked the illum cross hairs, haven't had chance to beat on em yet for the money great deal although i didn't like the on off switch to eazy to set off by accident and run down battery 0 -
I bought a Deerhunter model 4x32mm for a 22 I have. For the money, I like it a lot. Haven't tried one on a deer rifle though.

It all depends on your purposes. If you are going to compete at 1000yds, you won't win without spending $1000 or more, that's the least I have seen on any competiton or benchrest rifle. For The average hunter, who shoots from a stand or stalking position, and not a bench or rested position, I will 100% champion He Dog's suggestion of the Burris signature first, before the Leupold Vari-x III. That is only a matter of quality vs money. The signature will do everything the vari-x III will, for $150 less. The optics are every bit as good, and both are warrantied for life. That is not to say one is better, but I feel the Burris is a better buy (matter of opinion). If you have a lot of low light shots, you will probably be well served by the Swarovski, Shmidt and Bender, or Zeiss, and they will likely be the last scope you ever put on that rifle. They have great light transmission and will take any recoil you can give.
The Simmons aetec is a great starter and all around scope and will last IMHO, for many years before heavy recoil takes it's toll. they are very clear and the adjustments seem to hold very well, and for the money, I am impressed with them. I put one on a rifle I don't shoot much, just to have a good scope on it when I do want to shoot it. I give them a best buy rating for the under $200 category.
I guess if you disreguard my explanation of the Aetec, I said the same thing He Dog did.

When it comes to scopes,like everything else,you get what you pay for.If you buy Cheap than that is what you get.To me,it makes no sense to pay 500-600 for a nice rifle and put a 100 scope on it.If you have to,wait a little longer and save for a good scope.You will be much happier in the end. Just my opinion!!

I have a BSA platinum target on my M-77 7mm rem mag. It is doing fine so far, but I've only put ~60 rounds thru it to date. 0 -
My gamo pellet gun came with one and I was really impressed. Would I put one on my deer gun? No! Spend at least half of what you payed for your rifle on your scope. I used to run simmons aetec on my rifles then I bought a leupold vari-x II, for twice the price of the simmons you get 10 times the scope with leupold. I would go for one of the new vx-I leupold a 3-9 goes for 199.99 through Natchez shooting supply. The vx-II is 60 bucks more. I don't know about Burris but they are supposed to be on par with leupold. I wouldn't put anything cheaper on my guns. 0 -
My BSA Contender held up on my M1A (1500+rnds)until I found out how accurate the rifle was with iron sights. The scope now benched and awaits a new rifle.
