Manufacture date

Does anyone know where I can obtain the manufacture date -- in writing -- for my Colt Python without paying $175 for it from Colt? I have the serial number. Thanks!

  I own a Stevens model 987. The serial number is E494864. I was hoping that someone could help me out and tell me what year this gun was made. Thanks
