are the polytech M1A rifles any good? what would be a good price for a used one in good condition????

I have heard mixed reviews.
Some have the best of luck with the fit, finish, function, and accuracy.
Others have problems and innacuracy.
I thin, someone said that many of the GI parts will not work in a Poly Tech, or they may require alot of fitting. I am not sure if there are any problems with using GI mags either.
If I cam across one in good condition and the parts looked good and the bolt cycled well by hand, I would pay 500 for it. About half of a Springfield Armory a basic model.
If you are a serious shooter, you would probably be happier with a Springfield Armory M14 M1A. But your looking at 1000+ depending on the features and quality.
If it is cheap enough buy it and resell in in a few years at a profit if you don't like it.
I looked at some listings....I found 3. One was 700used, one was 800used, and the other was NIB 950.
Keep doing your homework on these.

The guy to talk to is cpermd. He is a competitive shooter with great experience with both the M1A and its Chinese clone. He tends to give them fairly high marks especially considering the price. Beach 0 -
Generally, the self-appointed "experts" tend to disparage them. Those who own them are quite happy with them. Like the ads used to say "Ask the man who owns one". I am quite delighted with mine; I paid about $500 a year or so ago. I would be happy to buy another at that price.

I have had 2 of them.. One was JUNK! The other was very good.. I think DIABLO is right about you need to do a lot of fitting to use US GI parts... Someone told be that, and he would know..

OK Sportsfans,listen up.
Buy a ChiCom M14 clone for around $450-600.
Immediately add a Garand rear sight($25) and USG Itrigger group parts($40).
Get a set of 7.62X51 OR 308 Win headspace gauges.
Bolt on the parts and check the headspace after each afternoon of shooting.
You will have a very nice 308 battle rifle with 2 MOA accuracy.
You can have the bolt heat treated for $30 or do like I do and just check headspace often.
2 out of 72 have loosened up after hundreds of rounds.
The others did not give any after at least 2500 rds.
Some shot in to 1 MOA.
This is one of the best bargains in shooting.
I am tired of hearing or reading that someone"heard" about a problem or a KB.
THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE DOCUMENTED CASE OF A CHICOM BLOWING UP.
There are a handful of companies that make a gob of money convincing folks that their guns are unsafe and will kill them unless those same companies "fix" them.

Go to the Fulton Armory website for a pretty good discussion about the pros and cons of a Polytech M14 clone. Apparently the receivers are believed to be very good because of the manufacturing process, but the remainder of internals are considered soft. cpermd's entry would seem to support the notion that the internals don't maintain position reliably. Fulton Armory is willing to take your green to turn a Polytech into a high(er) quality rifle. Give 'em a call with any questions. They're great.

Let's see..... $600.00 + $25 + $40 + $30 = $695.00 Then you need to add for the gunsmith to do all the work $$$$ And what will you have??? For the same money, You can but a NEW M1A from Springfield.

The sights and trigger group parts can be put on by a monkey in 5 minutes.
There is no other smithing needed.
I don't have more than $625 in any ChiCom I have owned,even after the USGI parts were put on.They are then equal or better than a Springfield Inc M1A.
That is a bargain in my book.
If you want to spend $500 more for a SA then feel free but if you find a ChiCom for sale please let me know about it.

I bought my Polytech when they first brought them in the country for
$349. That was a heck of a buy. I also bought a US military trigger group and an operating rod from CMP. They are truly no trouble to install. Mine is a little more accurate than my standard model Springfield M1A. I have not had any problem with it. I bought an extra GI bolt, but so far I have not needed it. I did install a GI fiberglass stock. I didn't change the sights as I installed a scope on it.0 -
A MONKEY Maybe he is a new shooter? And any gun like that you should use a " GO - NO GO " On it to be safe. Then what if it's a NO GO?? Maybe a monkey could fix it for him?

All I gotta say is....
The Springfield Armory M1A wouldn't have a forged receiver like the Chicom...
Not to mention the fact that many of the new Springfield Armory parts are Chinese anyway, from what I hear.
While cpermd my not be as tactful as some of us, he does know his stuff as far as the M1A and M14S.
I'm pretty much happy with my BM59.
