11-87 trap gun
I was in a gunshop and found a used 11-87 trap model. What concerns me, more than his price is to high, is the guy who traded it apparently thought is was a field gun. It had a sling added! What I want to know is what if any kind of damage could be done to by using load to heavy for the barrel? What I mean by that is Remington says the target barrel, which it has, is not pressure compensated and is designed for only 3 1/4 dram and no more than 1 1/8 shot lead only. I would bet it has had everything from dove loads to deer slugs to turkey loads in it. Probably the guy figured out something was wrong when he tried to put 3 inchers in it. Just a guess. Should I be afraid of this shotgun?

I'm a big fan of the 11-87. If your guess is right then the gun could be damaged. The making of the trap barrell was not designed to take full load and surely not slugs.
The the guy dealer keep it. I don't want to offend anyone but why I can't imagine why he would take in on a trade if the previous owner was hunting with it.

I went back today and looked at again. Took the forend off. The thing had rust on the tube and lots of light oil. I think wd-40 or the like. It also had some rust in the reciever too. It was real on the outside, but nasty inside. I think you guys were right, best to leave it there and I did. Thanks for all your help. 0
