could a silencer work on a revolver??

Are they as silent as in the movies or is that just for show? I have never fired one and was curious. In addition what is the general life span of a quality silencer? Im trying to figure out if its worth purchasing so I stop pissing off the neighbors.

In the US, the standard size for suppressor threads is 1/2 x 28. There are companies that make threaded replacement barrels for the more popular autos; this makes it cheap & simple to screw on a suppressor. For guns with a fixed barrel, you can buy an adaptor that must be attached to the front of the barrel by a gunsmith; not expensive either, but it permanently alters the barrel.

Last year I fired a suppressed Beretta 92 in 9mm. While I could fire it without my earmuffs, it definitely was not "silent". I could not hit much because of the unavoidable side effect of most suppressors: they obscure the metal sights. For most applications you will want to use a scope or some other optical sight.
