26" vs. 28"
Okay so I've decided on a Benelli SBE II. now my question is 26" or 28". The gun will be used for mostly upland bird hunting. Pros & cons. Thanks. [:D]

Recently I received a new charles daly o/u shot gun as a gift. It is a 12 gauge with a 26" barrel. I have never shot a shotgun with 26" barrel but cannot return the gift. How does the 26" perform and is it that much different than a 28"? It also has interchangeable chokes. Does anyone have an opinion on this and if so some tips on shooting the 26" as it is a very nice gun. 0 -
all of my shotguns have 26" for me they swing better and faster its a personal choice with choke tubes there is no real diference.

If this is a Japanese made Daly they are great guns. I bought a Miroku in Japan (same gun without the Daly name) in 1967, have shot it a lot with no problems. Mine is a skeet model with 26 inch barrels. I believe this is similar or identical to the Browning Citori. I do not believe you can tell much difference between 26 or say 28 inch barrels. All I have ever used is 26" barrels. I too, swing them faster and get on target quicker.

26 inch is purfect for upland game,28 might be better for geese and long range duck but your gun with a modified choke with steel 2s will reach out and touch a goose 0 -
The average shooter cannot tell the difference in the performance of a 26 in. barrel shotgun vs. the same shotgun with a 28 in. barrel. 26 swings a little better or quicker. 28 has a longer sight plane so may have slight advantage in target situations. No difference in performance or increase in velocity from shells of the same loading. 0 -
Jack O'Connor thought 26" was the perfect length for shotgun barrels no matter what the target. The British tradition leans to longer barrels, up to 32." 26" will do the job you want to do and do it very well. 0 -
Love my Kassnar Mk IV 26" o/u scince I bought it. I have not missed a Phesant once. I take it over my pump gun anyday 0 -

I have used many 28 and a few 30's. I like the 26 better for speed in bringing it to play and easyer going thru thickets. 0 -
I like my 26" o/u - it does come up just a bit quiker. I just got it this year and when practicing on trap, I had to slow myself down to compensate. I have bagged 2 grouse and 1 pheasent so far with it. I plan to go back out this weekend. I agree that I'll most likely use my 28" on duck and goose - though it really shouldn't matter - it could be a phsycological thing....
