I would suggest a 22 short. Should be good to take coon sized animals within reasonable range. Tom

.22 CB Shorts. Won't work in an auto though.

Almost any of the 22 target loads will be quieter than the economy 's like thunderbolts and wildcats... I use the rem blue stripe targets for the above mentioned tasks. mild report, cycle an auto when clean and oiled.

Hey thanks guys, about the 22 shorts... what are the best brands of 22 shorts and why wont they cycle autos? can they still be hand cycled in a 22 auto pistol? How powerful are the 22 short loads (fps and bullet weights) once again thanks for all the help

Try the Aguila .22LR SSS (Sniper Sub Sonic) 60 grains at about 900 ft/sec. Works well in Autos. Best, Robert

Depending on the range (and legality in your state), .20 and .22 caliber pellet rifles may fit the bill. At close ranges, they are as effective as a 22 short and are relatively quiet.

The Aguila .22LR SSS (Sniper Sub Sonic) at 60 grains weight are advertised to have the same energy as a .32. These are very quiet and I have found them accurate at 50 feet.
