Is there any difference between the military 45 magazines and the commercial ones? Why the occasional request for military 45 mags?

  Most shooters don't care; they all function well. Collectors, however, want to have a mag that matches the time period in which the gun was made. There have been numerous variations of both military & commercial Colt mags.
  
  Major categories of military mags are: WWI two-tone, early WWII Colt-marked, mid-to-late WWII contract, post-Korea contract.
  
  Major categories of commercial: Colt-marked plain, Colt-marked with horse.

  I never found a military mag that didn't work perfect. Over the years I've scarfed up a box full--several lifetimes supply and never paid over $5 for one. Colt commercial mags also work perfect but you seldom find a bargain on one.

  The feed lips are different between military and Colt mags. Semi-wadcutter, target type, ammo tends to have feeding problems from a military mag., so the lips need to be modified. I have picked up military mags., usually because they are less expensive than commercial, and modified the feed lips for my use. If you are not going to shoot swc ammo, then the mag. doesn't need to be modified.
  Neal is correct about collectors wanting a mag. from the same time period that their weapon was made.
  
  Don't send flowers when I die. Send money now, I can buy more ammo.
