HELP
I just bought a rifle from a non FFL holder here on gunbroker. My FFL is under the impression that the seller must send it through an FFL to him. Is this true? Or are rifles okay to send from non-FFL to FFL? Please include where to find proof to back up your reply, it's not that I don't trust you, it's that my FFL needs hard evidence.Thanks-

asking that question will get you as many differnt answers as there are people here....my preference is winchester model 70s but thats just my preference. remingtons are very good rifles also as are others depends on how much you are wanting to spend. and then there are all the different calibers to choose from.

Really depends alot on the area that you like to Hunt...Terrain has a lot to do with it..and just what are you wanting to Hunt? If your after Kodiac Bear...Than I'd suggest a 375 Weatherby Mag...If your after Elephant, then the 458 MCW is my Gun of Choice...If your gonna shoot Rats in the Dump...then a single shot .22 short is more fun...If You're gonna go for Deer? we're back to Terrain..Brushy Country a Good 94 Wichester in 30-30 is Fast and Light to bring into action,
Open Desert Country...a Good 30-06 is in my opinion the way to go...But
be more specific in your discription and request, and I bet you'll get some great input from the Members.....

As mentioned, the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight is a tough gun to beat. They shoot as straight as an arrow and pack alot of knockdown power. It's what I use for Deer in Wisconsin. 0 -

in the piney woods of east texas i've clean killed more whitetails with a win 94 in 30-30 than anything else but you cot good advice on tne win mdl 70's could'nt go wrong with the right cal my altime favorite is still the 30-06

I hunt in the northeast and have used everything from a 243 win, a 44 Mag to 30-06. Lately a 7mm-08 in a remington mod 7 SS synthetic stock has the nod. Good luck.

30-06 is probably the single most versatile cartridge available. The range of bullet weights and styles will cover virtually anything in the lower 48(although I would want a 375 or higher for game that thinks I am lower on the food chain).

Assuming you are allowed to use centerfire rifles, I agree that a 30-06 is hard to beat; good for any game in North America with the proper bullet. 8mm Mauser or 7.62X54R would be my second choices though only if you handload as selection isn't that great.
As to the gun, choices are endless. You can pick up a sporterized Mauser for perhaps $50-$100 that will do just fine, providing the bore is good. You can pay $10,000 for a fine british double rifle. I have mostly experience with military guns, though any civilian gun of new manufacture is fine, everyone has a favorite.

For a centerfire rifle, a bolt action is the top choice among deer hunters. Also for Elk etc. Brand is up to you. Savage has great accuracy in a plain Jane package. Remington is probably the top seller, and it is hard to beat a good Model 700. .30-06 is the most versatile round if you are not in close brushy quarters, but it does recoil. .270 is a good close second. for whitetails I like .257 Roberts, and .260 Remington is a good choice as well. 0
