7.62 compatible with other calibers?
Can a Mini 30 chamber any other caliber besides the 7.62? I have a Taurus .357 Tracker, which of course will shoot .38's. Is this true of other close calibers. I am interested in purchasing a Mini 30, but have not seen a lot of offers for the 7.62 round. I have seen a lot of other calibers that might be close though, .308, 30/30, 30/06 etc. Will any of these or others work in the Mini 30? Thanks

I am assuming that you mean the 7.62X39 which is NOT the same diameter as the .308 etc. The 7.62X39 is .312 diameter while the others you list are all .308.
The .357 is nothing more than an elongated .38 (both are .357 in diameter), it was elongated to differentiate it from the .38 Special as it would be unsafe to shoot a .357 in most .38 revolvers.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOO!! DO NOT try experimenting with this.
DO NOT attempt to put ANYTHING other than the ORIGINAL caliber the Mini-30 was chambered for.
Actually - that goes for every rifle.
Be (BEEEEEEP) sure that the cartridge fits the chamber, you do that by following the caliber-designation - 7.62*39 cartridges for a 7,62*39 rifle.
Eventhough - IF a 7.62mm rifle could hold another cartridge made for another 7.62mm with a different size and shape of brass, it is NOT SAFE TO SHOOT or even try.
The projectile wouldn't reach the point in the barrel, where it enters the barrel or it would be too far in so the bolt won't close correctly.
All that would happen - would be a WHA-BAM and you'd have two half rifles, no eyesight and shrapnel in almost every direction. If you're lucky....
The worst case I've seen, was an attempt to fire a 6.5*55 (sweedish) in a 8*57JS rifle.
The gunshop owner couldn't see the caliber-designation for light rust and ended up remembering wrong about the rifle - giving a friend of mine a pack of 6.5*55's for the rifle.
The cartridge did fit in the chamber, after pushing and jiggling a little, but luckily it misfired and the cartridge was stuck so he went home.
I hope you get this sorted out - otherwise, do take a gun safety course or speak with people like in here.

Can a good smith rebarrel or chamber ream to some other caliber? Sure. Can you just fire another caliber of ammo? NO! Why would you want to? 7.62X39 is already one of the cheapest available.

I do not wish to be insulting, but if you have to ask this question, you probably should not own the firearm!
The 357/38 situation is not unusual in revolvers which utilize straight-cased ammo, but in any bottleneck cartridge, the answer is always NO NO NO!!!
