Just curious, if you are looking at the para or kimber for primarily target / limited carry use why are you looking at the compact models? Both manufacturers make several models that would be much more comfortable in the target realm than the two you mentioned. As far as .45 vs .40 for carry purposes, the .40 does a good job, I am now using an XD-40 for carry purposes. I can and do carry .45's as well, I have a para p-14 stainless, a glock model 21, and an HK USP 45 that all fit well into the pack I use to carry in. I have also looked at the para p-10, but have convinced myself that for carry purposes I am well covered. Good luck in which ever way you go, it just seems that choosing a .45 that is compact for "target" use doesn't add up. 0 -
I USE A GLOCK 23 FOR CONCEALED CARRY. I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE COMMENT, IF YOU WANT A 1911 STYLE FOR TARGET USE GO WITH A FULL SIZE. THIS ISSUE OF SHOOTING TIMES HAS AN ARTICLE ON THE KIMBER CUSTOM CLASSIC II. SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF GUN FOR THE MONEY. I HAVE A KIMBER CUSTOM CLASSIC AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. 0 -
The Kimber has proven its self to be a great gun.I own a Para P-16 .40 LDA,I still havent exactly got used to the trigger but it shoots good and you can get Hi cap Mags for it.
Best!!

I get so tired hearing about this clone or another clone that is better than that clone. If they are so damned good,it would seem that they could design a better pistol than copying BROWNING'S design. The only AMERICAN company who uses their own designs are RUGER an S&W.BUY one each of them.Or BUY A COLT 1911.I have packed a 1911 L W COMMANDER for thirty years and it has always done the job, whatever I have asked of it.All those bells and whistles are strictly window dressing and each new model is something else to buy rather than beneficial. I have to admit, the 40 is a fine caliber, but like the 17 versus the 22, the 40 will never replace the 45 for us serious folks.WHEN YOU HIT THEM WITH A 45,THEY STAY HIT.GRIN,,,OK now I'll shut up.Carry on...

I agree completely with what modoc posted. The .45ACP will do the job.
Just compare the cross-sectional dentisty w/ others. No Comparison.
That old .45 ACP is in my opinion, the best round period. There was a post some time back about this conversation. The .45 won. If it came up to one caliber-the .45 ACP. 1010 -
HK USP COMPACT .45
I bet I could whoop a comparable Kimber's ass at 75 yards with my HK.0 -
I had a Para 13. Nice gun but it just didn't work for me. If you like Glock, get one in 45. Small 45s aren't really target material with their short sight and heavier recoil; get a fullsize 1911 from Kimber or Springfield Armory.

I disagree with modoc about the clone issue. For you to say that a 1911 made by one company is no better or worse than one made by different company is plain out wrong. For example compare the quality of a Wilson Combat 1911 to a Llama 1911, or for that matter compare the quality of a Kimber Supermatch to a Colt Gold Cup. So goes this same quality comparison for single action revolvers. For example: a Freedom Arms Model 97 to an American Western single acton revolver.

BOMMERANG,YOU are right in what you say to a point, but I'll not belabor the point. It all boils down to one thing." YOU PAYS YOUR MONEY AND TAKES YOUR CHOICE".For me I'll stick with my choice,L W Commander and National Match. Both by Colt and well worth searching for.In the meantime, use the clones with my blessings.Good Luck.
