Steyr M9, what goes in the botton of the grip?

The botton of the grip on my M9 is similar to my Glock. When the mag is in place there is a half moon hole in the back side of the grip behind the mag. Looking inside there are 2 groves that appears like it is made for something to fit in that empty space. Anyone have any idea?
