Ruger Blackhawk Grips

Does anyone know when Ruger changed from the black plastic grips (similar to the Colt grips) to the wood grips on the single action blackhawks.

  I was told by a ruger collector that my flat top 44 mag with a sn under 12000 should have black plastic stocks. From 12000 to 25000
  they could have black plastic or wood. Over 25000, wood.
  For what it's worth.
