    The Case Hardening on the Reciever is Reacting with the Bluing...My Step Father {H.E. MacFarland} spent over 37 years trying to find the Reason for this occurance, and found that this is because the Procedure used by different Manufacturers very from Using Salt Brine to Bone Ash or Kasenit or any of a half Dozen other agents used to put a High Carbon toughened Finish on the product before Bluing...

    The slides on many Colt pistols manufactured between 1968 and 1974 turned a plumb color. I presume for the same reason.
