I recall that you mentioned buying a BM-59. I would love to know if you have shot it, and your overall opinion of that rifle. I bought a BM-62, and a BM-59 folding stock just for grins, but will not be back in the States to take delivery until Xmas. My FFL dealer says the quality looks very high.

They are great to shoot. Your dealer was quite correct. When mine called me to tell me mine was in, he said the quality was obviously better than Springfield Armory. You won't be dissappointed.

I answered earlier while on my way out to a local gunshow, and was a bit in a hurry. I'm sure this will be a great Chrismas Present for yourself. These are really nice firearms, no doubt about it. If you're like me, you will tend to smirk a bit when observing an M1A at any particular event. Not that I still wouldn't buy an M1A if the price was right. But one of these really does satisfy any "must have" craving for an M14 style weapon.
I'm sure you will want to pick up some spare mags along the way. I know Reese has them for about $69 each (new). That's not a bad price. But if you take your time, you should be able to fine them new for between $50 and $60, and used for between $40 and $50. There aren't that many BM59 mags out there, but then again, there's not that many people looking for them. Don't get sucked into buying them in the $75 to $105 price range I have seen on occasion. I've picked up 16 of them, 10 of them new, over the past few months and you shouldn't have to spend too much for a few spares. Also, your BM62 will probably have a stripper clip attachment on the top of the receiver, magazines can be loaded by stripper clips while in the firearm, similar to the M14. So you don't need too many spares.

Thanks boeboe. I carried an M14 in the Marine Corps, circa 1962-64, just when the Corps was transitioning from the M-1, and qualified with both the M1 and M14 at different times. I really grew to love the Garand action. Appreciate the info on mags - I ordered six from Reese Surplus when I bought my BM62. I have not seen any advertised on Gunbroker, but will keep an eye out. Do you know if there are any 5 round mags available that will fit the BM59/62? Reese was not aware of any. 0 -
I've only seen the five round mags advertized once, I think it was with a gun, I don't know of anyone who carries them. I kinda want one myself. If I find any, I'll make a post. If you find any, please do the same.
