Worst NEW gun i have ever seen

My nephew brought me his rifle, he had just bought at Wal-Mart,and asked me to sight it in for him.After bore-sighting and fireing about 10 rounds i couldn't get the rifle to make any sense.Checked the bases and rings--All tight.Deceided the scope had to be junk.He returned the scope for a new one.I mounted it and headed back to the gravel pit.After about 10 or 12 more rounds i still could not get it even on paper.2 bad scopes?? not likely.I removed the bolt and for the first time, took a really close look at the bore.Believe this or not--The bore is actually oblong and has a hook to the right.Not the barrel-just the bore.How did this gun pass quality control???He is going back to Wal-Mart with it tonight.I am sure they or Winchester will repair or replace But--How did this gun EVER LEAVE the factory???? NO Wonder i will only buy old guns.QUALITY--you can't buy it at any price today.Guess i have had my say. Old Single Shots

    My local dealer has explained to me that different Manufacturers have different grades of gunsmiths working for them. The newer less experienced gunsmiths work on the guns that are sold to places such as Walmart
    Maybe he is feeding me a line maybe he is not, but either way it has detered me from purchasing a firearm from these types of stores.

    The rifle is a model 70 with matte blue finish and black synthetic stock.
    I personally would never buy a gun from Wal-Mart.I am willing to pay more to support the small dealers. Old SS

    People buy winchester because of the name the old ones was better but the new one are made cheap.Had one in a .300 mag we took our time setting the scope we got it right but when we fired it one after another the barrel got hot after the third shot and it was way of target. aiso got a remington 3006 from K-MART it shot O. K. but it don't dent the cap as deep as it should have.

    Nah, keep it, u don't want the barrel anyway, just throw it away, and put a douglas premium barrel on it. Then have some trigger work done, and mount a nice Leupold scope on it.

    Its kinda funny, I was actually looking for a used 70 with a wood stock to do the exact same thing I just mentioned with.

    Ya know, there's one thing I do before I buy any gun. Look down the barrel. Anyone else out there tend to do that?

    I will not buy a gun from wally world,do not trust the quaility.I sometimes believe they get the leftovers,just my opinion.

    Its one of the Black Shadow pieces of junk that Winchester has a line out on. Havent seen one yet that shoots well. I think you get a Simmons junk scope with it also.

    I seem to remember you buying a Beretta BM-59(?) that you didn't look down the barrel first ... Hummm! Hows that puppy shooting anyway?

    I also check the bore of any gun i buy but, i did not buy the gun.I was only sighting it in for someone.
    The scope is a Simmons,which in my opinion is another word for Junk.
    I just don't understand how Winchester could let their name be put on anything of that poor quality.I would certainly think twice before i would buy a NEW Winchester.
    Wal-Mart may not give a damn but,i would think Winchester would.

    I stopped buying at wal mart when I over heard a girl tell a would be customer that any 30 cal. rounds would work in a 30 06 not just 30 06 so the lady got a box of 300 win mag which was on sale I stopped her and told her of the girl being wrong and she took the ammo back and said her husband could buy his own ammo the worst of it was she did not have a foid (firearm owners Id) which you got to have to buy guns or ammo in Illinois figure this one out I use to be a dealer and when I tryed to renew (while clinton was in office) after 3 months and a price increase they said I could not deal out of the back of my house go figure

    Hate to say it, but I bet you Wal-Mart will NOT take the gun back. It will be up to Winchester to fix, and up to the gun owner to contact Winchester. Wally World has a STRICT no return policy on any firearm purchase. For ANY reason.

    Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot, either!
