Camp Carbine Questions
2 new thoughts about my new favorite gun: 1) Can it shoot 9mm.+P ammo? 2) What hi-cap clips do you recommend? I've been told to avoid USA brand, ever hear of Western? Thanks guys.

I have an early model Camp 9 and love it. I spoke with a Marlin Rep. several years ago and he discouraged the use of +P's in the rifle. I have fired a few through mine as well as some +p+ 's.
As for magazines, I have gone the route with the aftermarket ones including Western and USA. I only use factory Marlin Mags and factory S&W Mags. I have never had a magazine related problem with either of these. I can't say the same for the rest.
I put a Tasco PPII red dot sight on mine a few years back. I really like the set up. I also own a S&W 669 that uses the same Mags, great combo.

Marlin will tell you "not" to use +P ammo, but if you talk to the right factory reps., they'll tell you +P is "safe", but it will wear the gun more quickly. (Something you may not want to do since it's an out of production rifle.)
They will tell you consistently that +P+ should NOT be use.
Remember too to use 115gr or lighter bullets (I sometimes shoot Hornady 90gr). The friction of the longer barrel, plus a heavier bullet (like 124gr or 147gr) with powder loads designed for a shorter pistol barrel, can actually work to reduce muzzle energy to the point that the bullet will have LESS energy than if it were fired from a pistol.
With the 115gr and lighter bullets you can have up to a 40% (depending on the round) INCREASE in energy over that of the same round fired in a pistol. (My point is, you really don't need the +P loading since the longer barrel can give the bullet the extra "punch" it won't get in a handgun.)
If you do want to use the +P, you may want to try a stronger recoil spring. Wolff Springs makes stronger springs.
As for magazines. The only ones I've had 100% reliability with are the S&W Factory 59-series and Marlin Factory.0 -
I have to say so far Ive never had a problem with USA Mags.I didnt know western made handgun clips,they do make them for the Mini-14 and I have some but have never used them.The S&W Mags I know work very well in the gun.As far as shooting +P ammo Marlin says not to do it,that it will wear your gun out quickly because they didnt design it to shoot hot ammo.

Thanks, I've been shooting Winchester 124gr. FMJ. I'll try some 115gr. I was going to the gun shop after work today anyway. I bought this at a gun show, it looks like it was fired very little. I definitely want to take care of it.

I've tried a Western 30-rd. for my Ruger PC-9. The mag body was too narrow to push the rounds down. Hollow points did work well, but that's too expensive just to plink with.

I do not shoot plus P's in mine mainly because the book says not to.
I recently purchased a 30 round Mag for it thru cheaper than dirt for around $17.00 bucks it works fine.
