WWII Naval Flare Gun

I have someone who wants me to auction off a WWI unfired (naval)flare pistol with lanyard, made by International Flare Signal Company. It is contained in a water-tight, signal pistol container, approved by the US Coast Guard. The pistol has a blued steel barrel and a brass frame. Also in the container is a box of unfired cartridges that shoot up a red flare and comes down with a parachute.

I want to be sure there are no legal ramifications for selling this item on EBay or Gunbroker.com. How about shipping the unfired cartridges?

Does anyone out there know anything about this?

  Ebay will not let you sell any firearm or loaded ammunition on its site. So you'd be out of luck trying to list it there.
  Unless you need the money badly, consider donating it to an appropriate museum.
  Contact the nearest British Consulate for information on museums that may be interested in your flare pistol.
  If you donate it, you may request a tag with it that reads, "Donated by ____"
  If sold, it will be passed from collector to collector through the years and few eyes will see it. But in a museum, millions of eyes can view it and learn.

  You can't sell the items on Ebay, it's a big NO NO.

  May I please direct your attention to auction # 5788240. My Webley is in much better shape that this one and it has the ORIGINAL holster to go along with it.
  
  Also check out # 5794519. Please be aware that flares/veries are going to have to be shipped by UPS/Fed-Ex, NOT the post office and will require a "Haz-Mat" fee, assuming you have a terminal manager who is NOT an idiot or POLITICALLY correct. Check the web-sites, and be prepared to bring a copy of the regulations from their "web-site" or you will get no-where with the terminal manager.
  
  I have a Webley-Scott "Blunderbluss" ""launcher"", the correct shoulder-holster and 2 veries. I would suggest that you list the "flares"/varies separately. Please inform me of the auction number as I would like to bid on them myself.

  It is NOT a firearm under federal law and you may be able to list it on ebay and will probably get high dollars for it there..As far as the flares,veries ebay wilk NOT allow them and they have to be shipped by common carrier..not US Mail
  I dont know what they are worth, Every time I think of selling mine I decide to keep it..

  Do not confuse ebay rules with Federal law. They won't allow a listing for a pistol unless it says "toy" in front of it.
  
  As for the value, I've seen beautifully made brass flare pistols on dealer's tables for years, usually with a $75-100 asking price. And, they never sell. Collector interest is close to zero.
  
  You might try listing it on Gunbroker, but don't get your hopes up.
