Rugar P-89
I went through the search to find some info on the P-89. I was wondering does anyone own one and how they really are. I'm interested in getting one, but can't decide between P-89 CZ-100 or XD9. I'm new to handguns and looking for something nice. The only other ? I have is on their site it says DOA or Decock what does Decock mean?

Looking and still looking for triggar mods and upgrades for this pistol. I have upgraded the grips and use 20 round clips I would love to get better sights than the stock ones or maybe someone can suggest better ones.I am interested in A recoil reducer.

The P89 is an excellent pistol, and of the 3 mentioned it would be my choice. Decock means that when you push the lever on the left side, rear, of the slide that looks like a safety it causes the hammer to drop to the uncocked position. To fire you then simply pull the trigger double action like a revolver; or, given the time, you can manually cock it with your thumb and fire single action. DAO, of course, means Double Action Only; and this version always fires from the hammer down position and can not be cocked manually. There are pros and cons to both systems. 0 -
So w/ the p-89 Decock only mean you can decock the hammer it is still a double action. What safety does this model offer. How does it compare to the KP94 model. Everyone says that they are good guns I just want 2 make sure before I go and get it. They have one for rent I'll probably rent it before I buy. just wanted to get others opinions on it before I wasted my time. Thanks 2 all that helped. Also what due u recommend for Ammo. I agree with everything DG said.I am a recent fan of Rugers.They build very robust firearms.Another you might want to consider is the Ruger P-95.It is a polymer framed 9mm double action with decocker.CW

DG has it nailed again. The Ruger is built like a tank and should last thru a couple of lifetimes. I am a fan of the CZ but do not really care for the CZ-100 but would suggest the CZ 75PCR or CZ85. There have been rave reviews about the XD but I was not that impressed when it was the HS200 and cost 150 less.

yea i'm pretty set w/ going w/ the ruger. I like that it has a little more weight to it 32 oz compared to 25 like the XD to me is a great differance. Haven't decided between blue or SS. I have to order it by monday of next week so I can qualify at work on Sat. I'm not sure if I should get the houge grips put on there right away or wait and shoot w/o them for a while. I hope I make a good choice I've been researching these 3 for a while Shot the CZ and the XD recently but havn't touched a ruger in a long time since I was like 15 when my uncle had it. 0 -
If you get it, put the hogue grips on it. I put them on mine and I like it a lot. You cant go wrong with the ruger. As for the ammo mine has worked with any brand that I put in it.

I have several P-85 and 89's.
Ther is no safety on a Decock only model. If you want to be extra safe just don't chamber a round until ready. With a good holster you should be able to carry safely with a round chambered.
There is also a Decock-Safety model. This model has a safety that acts as a decocker when the hammer is back.
The Double Action Only model has the same pound pull on each firing of the gun. I don't like this style but others do and they make them, so there must be a market for them.
After much research and reading I found the Winchester 115gr. SilverTips to be the most accurate. They are also an excellent personal protection round. There are more lethal rounds, but I chose these to stockpile. Ruger will fire any round you put in it. I put over 1,250 rounds of Wolf ammo through one of mine and no problems at all.
Grips are personal preference, I have Hogue grips on two of mine, and original on the other seven.

Oh Yeah, when I pick up a Ruger P-Series from my FFL, by the time he reaches for the tranfer form I have already taken it apart for field cleaning, they are that easy.

I have a P-89, and love it. 400 rounds of Wolf hasn't hurt it a bit, and I got the Hogue grips on it and recommend them. Never misfires. Clunky, but solid, and reliable.
If you had to have only one gun of any type, you should look at a Ruger, and this one is a good one.0 -

The "decock only" P-Series guns are SAFE to carry with a round in the chamber. There are internal saftey's which are deactivated as the trigger is pulled; there IS "one less" saftey--the external "thumb activated" safety--on the decock-only or double-action-only models.0 -
I guess I should have typed more. The reason I said something about extra safety and a good holster is when pulling the gun out is if you are not used to sticking you trigger finger straight out you have a chance of putting your trigger finger on the trigger and pulling the trigger and gun out at the same time. Which could result with a hole in your leg.
As far as the holster goes, I always buy one that completly covers the trigger and trigger guard. Don Hume has inexpensive, well built and comfortable "In The Waistband" holsters like I described.
I carry one chambered, but I've been carrying these guns for a long time.
The safefty described by competentone is a cam between the hammer and firing pin making the hammer unreachable to the firing pin.
The only way a Ruger P-Series gun is going to go off, is if you pull the trigger.

From the three u listed I would have to go with the XD 9, in my opinion its a far superior pistol to the Ruger and the CZ. I would then get the CZ second, and the Ruger third. All of them are decent guns. The CZ doesn't really have much of a reputation, cause not many people own them, but if you'll ask around, most people I've met who own them, love them. The XD series is really started to get popular, since they put out their longslide version, my local gunshop can't keep them on the shelves. I have the standard XD40, and I actually like it better than my Glock 22. Rugers make fine economically priced handguns. But they just don't compare with the XD or CZ, as far as ergonomics and accuracy. 0 -
IMHO=The CZ is as good as any gun made,I own two.But I would consider the P-89 you cant go wrong.It shoots well,is very reliable and it feels good in the hand.Mine eats whatever I feed it as well.With regular maintenance the gun should last a lifetime.

I've got a P89DC that has injested in excess of 8K rounds with one malfunction. I don't own a more reliable pistol.
It ain't pretty but it runs, and that is what they are for.
