    I'm not a leather maker/markings expert, but since you'll take any info, and you're not getting a response elsewhere...when I was in the military the 1911 holsters had already changed from brown to black a couple of years earlier. I don't know the exact year the transition took place (it was probably done gradually), but it was concurrent with the change from brown to black boots; probably 1958-60. For years the brown model was for sale on the surplus market, and now I occassionally see the black model. They are not rare, and your specimen would most likely have been made in the approx. 1960-1984 time frame. I would imagine that production pretty much ended around the time that the Beretta replaced the 1911. The basic design soldiered on though; as I see black leather holsters for the M-9 with the same general shape and flap.
