FFL info
yeah, how do i go about starting the paper work to get my FFL, what are the age requirements, how much does it cost, etc etc. Basicly i know nothing about it and it seems unlikely that just anyone can get their FFL and get automatic weapons. But who knows, just some basic info would be good. Oh it probably varies from state to state, i'm living in PA... next year:-P

What u need to do is get out your phone book, look up the phone number to your LOCAL atf office, not the big national one, and call them up. Tell whomever answers the phone that your interested in applying for an FFL, and could they please connect u to someone who could assist u. Then you'll get someone. They will be able to answer most of ur questions, and u can get them to send u an application packet. 0 -

Lee is correct for getting a packet sent to you. However, I would go to the ATF site and get all the information that I could ahead of time. The site contains lots of FAQ's (frequently asked questions) with detailed answers. This way you will be prepared when you call your regional office to request a packet and ask any other questions that you might have.

I noted that in your post you said "get my FFL"; you didn't say "get into the retail gun business".
Many years ago people DID get an FFL just so that they could buy their own guns at wholesale. Not anymore. BATF does it's best to restrict the issuance of new & renewal licenses to those who are actually in the gun business. Between high fees, rigid recordkeeping requirements, & the need to satisfy local laws (see Pat1's thread below), getting an FFL is no longer a simple way to get your own guns cheap. And, an FFL is valid only for a specific location; since you apparently move frequently, it hardly seems worth the effort.
As far as automatic weapons go....fees and regulations are far more difficult. Automatic weapons are toys for well-off (or foolish) people.
If you want guns, patronize your local dealer. He deserves to earn a living, and a good relationship with him will be worthwhile.

If you live in Finland, per your profile, You cant get an United States FFL.
You are regulated by your contries law's.
The only way you can purchase from the USA is to import.
One of the biggest problems you will have is finding someone to export from the USA to you.
Alot of the items cant not be exported to your contry.
Your best bet is to contact your countries State Dept., who maybe able to answer your questions on importation of firearms & or parts

If not, wouldn't he have to have full citizenship to obtain a FFL?

Yeah i'm a US citizen, on exchange in Finland. So, inorder to get an FFL, i have to be in the gun business... but you cant sell auto's... how the heck is that working now? Is there any way to leagaly get an automatic weapon and not have to be in a business, etc?

Sure, just find a CLASS III FFL dealer, pay the outrageous price for the weapon of your choice, and a $200 tax for a Class III stamp. That's all you've got to do.

Short Trader wouldn't give bad advice; the only thing that he left out is the fact that the federal govt will do an extensive background check on you before approving the transfer, and that could take many months.
If you really want all the details, go to the BATF website & see for yourself. You can even download the Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF P5300.4), or request a hard copy from BATF.
Of course, state or local law may further restrict (or even prohibit) the ownership of Class III weapons, but your Class III dealer will be invaluable in determining this.

You don't need a lic, but I did forget one other thing - You'll need 'permission' from the chief law enforcement officer in your area (that would be the chief of police or the sheriff himself).
Not 'shady' at all.
