S&W vs Ruger - Better Buy

Hello Friends, I'm looking at two really clean, used stainless revolvers in .357 Mag and they are each priced at $200.00...one is a S&W Mod 681 with 4" bbl...the other is a Ruger Security Six with what looks to be a 2" bbl...without regard to pros & cons re barrel length, which do you think is the better buy?     Personally, I'd go with the S&W due to price and bbl length. There's nothing wrong with Ruger revolvers, though. My GP100 is a sweet specimen.

    timbroman: what are you going to use it for? both guns are good quality firearms,, I would go with the one that feels best in your hand, the one that points best, the S&W is going to have the better trigger pull, the Ruger will most likely last longer and take hotter loads, the smith will be easier to shoot because of the longer barrel,, buy them both and shoot the heck out to them and them sell the one you like least

    Man, thats a hard say. They are both super revolver manufacturers. Personally I tend to favor Smith & Wesson, because I keep seeing surplus police revolvers for sale in shotgun news for so cheap. As a matter of fact, I have a S&W 60 on my hip right now, LOL.

    As far a quality they are definatly equally suitable for personal protection and duty arms. You really have to get down to which model is best for u. That I would have no idea, only u'd know that.

    When it comes down to it, between Ruger, S&W, and Taurus. Trying to say one is better is like comparing Chevy, Ford, and Dodge trucks. Its all personal preferance, they all are great.

    There is nothing wrong with the Ruger, but I also like the S&W better.
    L-Frame revolvers fit my hand well and I like the balance of them. For most people, firing full power .357's is easier with the larger S&W. Good luck with your choice.

    I may be a little partial here but go with the Ruger you wont regret it.I have a SP101 .357 Mag 21/4 in Barrel.At 25yrds it will tear a paper plate up.If I had it to do over I would have got the 3in barrel.I also have the GP100 .357 Mag 6 in Barrel.I wish I had got the 4 in now.

    I have a Ruger Police Service Six with a 2in bbl.It is my favorite wheel gun,I lean more towards autos.Very robust gun and will take more full power 357mags than my hand can.Since SW are good guns also I would get the one that feels the best in hand.CW

    I'd get the S&W. I love Ruger, but for a DA wheelgun my heart and wallet goes S&W.

    At $200 a pop I'd grab 'em both if I could. Mind you, gskyhawk is right about the fit. Then again, different grips can fix that. But I'd buy the Ruger first. They're stronger.

    Go with the Smith simply because of the barrel length. Either gun is great, but I think in the long run you will find the slightly longer barrel just as concealable, and more versatile.

    Much more versatile, like for stirring soup I'd buy them both, and whichever one you decide on after shooting them keep, and the one you didn't decide on sell. You can either get your money back or maybe a coupla dollars more.
