    72,

Either Guns & Ammo or the NRA's American Hunter had a good article on this within the last six months. See if you can locate that. It discussed several types, the pros & cons of each & did a review of several offerings by various companies across a spectrum of prices.

Leica 800. Had them for about 2 years now and love them. Use them almost every weekend and batteries still going strong. We have tried most of the others and the Leica seems to be the most consistent of the bunch in all weather conditions and terrain. Russ

BOUGHT THE NIKON 400 FROM CABELAS. IT WORKS FINE TO ABOUT 80 YDS., BUT FURTHER THAN THAT THE SURFACE HAS TO BE VERY REFLECTIVE. THIS DOES NOT DO A HUNTER MUCH GOOD WHEN TRYING TO RANGE A BROWN DEER AND MOST DEER DO NOT CARRY MIRRORS AROUND. A FRIEND HAS A BUSHNELL THAT WORKS MUCH BETTER. I AM GETTING READY TO SEND THE NIKON BACK.

I use the Leica LRF 1200. I believe the Leica 800 is being discontinued and replaced by the 1200. It's got excellent optics. You can read about Leica rangefinders here - Jesse has reviewed all of the popular models http://www.jesseshuntingpage.com/rangefinders.html
and if you want to just look at Leica reviews go here http://www.jesseshuntingpage.com/leica-rf.html

I have a Bushnell yardage pro 500, the only time I had trouble with it is when I tried to use it to range a fox in the snow, it did not seem to work but will try it again this year. The thing I like the most about it is; set up in a deer stand and check different items like trees, fence posts, or clumps of grass so that when the deer appears you do not have to take the time to check the range of the deer itself. I know ahead of time where my limits are and ready to shoot. I have ranged items out to 300yds. with no problems. Al

Thanks for the information, I'll see if I can find the reviews.
