Age of Ruger Blackhawk??

When my dad passed away, I was given his Ruger Blackhawk 44 mag. As far back as I can remember, he had this gun. He even named it "Big George." The serial # is 96xx and I think it's called a "flat top," as the area in front of the rear sight is completely flat (approx. 1/2" x 2 1/2"). It has what looks like immitation ivory "fita - staGrip" grips on it. Any ideas???

Thank you for your help. I recently located this website and have found it to be extremely educational/interesting. I hope to be able to spend more time here.

  jb: welcome, the Ruger Flattop was made from 1956-1963 with approximately 28,000 made,,, if you need more info try contacting Ron at http://members.aol.con/ronstcs/
  his e-mail is Ronstcs@aol.com and his phone is 610-614-0320

  Production dates for the 44 flat top were 1956-1962. Your Father's gun was made in 1958. Hope this helps.
