    The only info I can offer is that they were around 33,000 of these rifles made.The first 3000 had a brass patchbox, the rest had iron patchboxes. A nice one should bring $2000 +. I just got a New Model 1863. And have been reading up on them. I read somewhere where the orginal records were at. I believe they charged over $100 to search the gun in question. If I can find that info I'll pass it on to you. There is also a book that list some of the serial numbers and the soldier it was issued to.

    Thanks knifeuser. The recruits paid $40 for their rifles. Anyone know how much that would be worth today? The recruits that formed part of the 151st NY came from western New York. I am looking for information on the rifles that these recruits bought.

    No mention of bayonets purchased even though it has a lug.
