Recently purchased a 22 rifle model 550-1 with Apache scope. This rifle serial number 702863 has apparently never been shot. I bought it from a guy who won it in a sales contest. It still has the instruction book and such with it. He told me he never shot it or the Remington Model 58 16 ga., he also won. I sold the 16ga with plain barrel to friend for $200. obviously to cheap. I am wondering what the 22 is worth as I have never had rifles, only shotguns. Someone looked at it and thought the scope was worthless. The cross hairs on the scobe are not straight up and down if that matters. Just wondering what it might be worth, only marks on it is from handling and gun case. 0 -
If I remember correctly the 500-1 came to life right after WWII when the 550-A was discontinued. The last listing I can find for the 550-1 is in a 1970/71 catalog and shows a list price of $56.95, plus $5.40 for sling and swivels. Among other things the write up says..."the model 550 is well built, well designed- an exceptionaly fine all around rifle for the hunter or plinker". I'm sure it was discontinued right after that! I'll go out on a limb here and say that a 550-A in decent shape will retail in the $100 to $125 range. When the 552 Speedmaster arrived on the scene I'm sure the 550's fate was sealed.

A nice 550-1 will bring 150-175 in my area. Folks like 'em cause they function with shorts.
