A Browning BAR Mk II is a good hunting rifle. It is one of the more accurate semi-automatics. Of course, one can make many things do jobs that they really weren't intended for, and using this rifle for such a purpose would be a good example. Most high powered sniper rifles in use today are bolt action, used in preference to semi-autos because they offer a more stable platform for repeatable accuracy. The slam-bang of a semi-auto's action will usually result in the barrel/stock relationship being slightly different after each shot, and because things have to move inside the forestock it is difficult to bed them so as to avoid this result. Are there exceptions? Sure! The M14 could be made into a pretty good sniper rifle, but note the one piece stock.

makes sense. i assumed the 2-piece stock would prevent top notch accuracy. i just got my hopes up that a semi-auto 300 win capable of sniper-grade accuracy WAS available to the relatively poor man i am (there are apparently 300 WSM ar-10 rifles made on a custom basis, but i cant live with selling my truck for a new rifle). any other semi 300 win magnums out there that i havent been alerted to?
