Plainfield M-1 Carbine
Its not a GI collectable, but civillian made rifle(shooter). So my question starts here: what would a fair value be for this rifle, it is not new (has been shot), it is in near new condition-no rust-no blueing wear on rifle-a few dents in stock, hole in stock with web sling, 4 mags (unknown cap. 2 short 2 long- slight insertion rubs on blueing), bore bright. I was given a quick look and tried not to be to interested, I want to give a fair price without going overboard. Its one of those just one more! Thanks for any help.

Tools1 is wrong, If its Not GI, its Plainfield, universal or iver johnson Plainfield machine Tool and Mfg Mfg Co in New jersey made these, early on they used GI receivers, later they made their own, as the supply of GI receivers ran out quickly
i owned some of these and found them to be Better than Iver Johnson and of course lots better than universal, About same as GI Standard grade and of course all parts are interchangeable with the US Issue rifle which is a plus as the universal does not interchange. . Plainfield also made a Pistol Version (Long before universal Enforcer Pistol was made)0 -
i have a plainfield but the stock is poop----someone sprayed it black gloss---yuck---i was going to refinish it and after i started stripping found out why it was painted--its CRACKED--does anyone know where i could get another one????thanks sm 0 -
iver johnson got into the carbine manufacturing business only after they purchased plainsfield mfg. about 1975 the late production plainsfield and early production iver johnson are the same.

Don't get involved with the Plainfield. Save your money and buy a solid GI carbine. It will be worth it in the long run.

You are apparently a product of "liberal" child-raising techniques designed to foster "self-esteem" at the expense of manners, courtesy and common sense. redcedars, Thank you for your concern about my furure here. The part of HELP I was looking for was "to give something necesssary" so you included yourself in the crowd of needless information with your answer. I didn't ask a history lesson on this rifle, I didn't ask what you traded for what, what you had last year. I asked a simple question and discribed the rifle. If you and other people can't answer the question please keep your opinion among the "deafening silence". I would rather have a humorous answer then a worthless one. 0 -
